Cape Verde, Praia

Cape Verde, PraiaPerhaps because of their island separated from the continent, its past, its climate … Cape Verde shows a cultural fusion between Africa and Europe only in the continent with one of its highest expression in music with the artist than Cesaria Evora exponent.

Located on the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Senegal, the islands remained uninhabited until the fifteenth century when the Portuguese made them one of their main bases of the slave trade.

The volcanic islands that form the archipelago offer visitors authentic, beaches, stunning sea bed, mountains, volcanoes, history, great cultural tradition, good food, but away from the concept of elite tourism in other African countries offer to become an experience direct and much closer than the “all done” other products in neighboring countries.

The Cape Verdean capital, Praia, is also its largest city with about 120,000 inhabitants.

Located on the island of Santiago, the city has an important commercial port and a powerful fishing industry.

With an indelible mark of the Portuguese colonial past, Praia paid to visit places like the Church of Our Lady of Grace, the Ethnographic Museum and the viewpoint Diogo Gomes with a sculpture in memory of the Portuguese navigator who discovered the islands.

Deserves special mention is the only botanical garden in the country: Sao Jorge, whose visit is highly recommended.

Praia has an attractive and colorful commercial life and a good musical and cultural environment well away from the nightlife mass plagued other African capitals sellers.

In just fifteen miles from Praia Cidade Velha is a must to be the ancient capital of the islands and be ranked as one of the seven wonders of Portuguese origin in the world. This city, first founded in the islands has an impressive historical and architectural heritage highlighting the impressive fort San Felipe Real corona about 100 meters in the city or the ruins of the Cathedral is destroyed by pirates in 1712.
