BrusselsIf we want to take the fascinating ways that make Benelux we cannot leave without visiting the capital of Belgium, the emblematic city of Brussels and founded in the year 979.

After the odd battle in which the territories were taken away from the city and then returned in the Middle Ages, Brussels was able to recover to fall back into the Second World War against Hitler led armies. Despite all the setbacks the capital of Belgium won the right to all federal entities in the country after the creation of the Brussels-Capital Region with its government and independent parliament. Recently, in 2000, this beautiful city was named European Capital of Culture for the enormous cultural heritage that keeps their streets.

Due to its location in central Europe the capital of Belgium has the headquarters of some of the most important bodies of the European Union since 1950. Thus, the European Council, the European Commission and European Parliament have located their headquarters in this city. Apart from hosting centers belonging to union Brussels also contains the headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty also known as NATO.

At the time just to walk through the streets that crisscross this cosmopolitan city we can be excited about the varied architecture and decorating styles different elevations of buildings on each side of the sidewalk. We can highlight the medieval buildings which are situated the Grand Place square was named by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site back in 1988 and has no waste with its Gothic town hall and the cathedral of San Miguel also raised in this beautiful public area. Also in the center of the square you can see the remains of the old city with its flamenco-style buildings dating from the time of Charles V.

If you want to visit a good museum we can visit the many buildings dedicated to exhibiting works of art and curios. Some of the most important and famous are the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium, the Museum of Ancient Art and the Museum of Modern Art. We can also make a surprise visit to the museum house of Victor Horta, great representative of Belgian modern art, certainly a feast for the senses.

Brussels is a city really well connected to the rest of the world because of its importance in marriage and the possession of vital agency headquarters for Europe. If you are a lover of art or simply a traveler with a desire to have fun, this is a perfect destination.
